In the summer of 2018, Melrose gathered as a community for a vigil, “Melrose Stands Up: One Community, One Nation Open to All.” It was an opportunity to stand with our neighbors in opposition to the practice of family separation at the border. Manisha spoke at the vigil, tying what’s happening at the border to our lives in Melrose.
One year later, asylum seekers and others were being detained under inhumane conditions — and it seemed like we were becoming numb. Lights for Liberty is a nationwide movement dedicated to the “fundamental principle behind democracy that all human beings have a right to life, liberty and dignity.”
Manisha organized a meet up for Melrosians to attend the Boston Lights for Liberty vigil. It was an opportunity to find strength in community, to speak up, and to learn how to take action.
