Committee to Elect Manisha Bewtra press release, September 5, 2019:
The following was submitted by the Committee to Elect Manisha Bewtra.
The Massachusetts Sierra Club has endorsed mayoral candidate Manisha Bewtra, citing her strong record and vision for sustainable cities. Bewtra is the only Melrose candidate endorsed by the Sierra Club, the nation’s largest grassroots environmental organization.
“The Massachusetts Sierra Club is proud to endorse Manisha Bewtra for Mayor of Melrose,” said Jordan Meehan, chair of the Massachusetts Sierra Club’s political committee. “Manisha has proven to be a dedicated advocate for environmental justice and equity and has laid out a vision to put sustainability at the heart of all local decision-making. She brings the values, vision, and leadership necessary to make Melrose a leader in sustainability and we are confident that she will be the leader Melrose needs.
“I’m honored by this endorsement,” Bewtra said. “Sustainability has always been a core element of my work. When we make decisions that consider the environment, social equity, and public health, we make better long-term decisions for our quality of life and local economy. Acting on sustainability will ensure that Melrose remains a thriving community for generations to come.”
The Sierra Club nod follows Bewtra’s recent endorsement by the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus Political Action Committee, an organization committed to increasing the number of women elected to public office. Bewtra is the only Melrose mayoral candidate endorsed by the committee.
Bewtra is an Alderman-at-Large, a professional city planner, and former vice chair of the Melrose Human Rights Commission. She is running on a platform of accountability and inclusive decision-making to strengthen our community with strategic, data-informed solutions for infrastructure, housing, schools, and affordability. Her vision for Melrose is a city with stronger ties between neighbors, where long-time residents and newcomers come together in support of a thriving, connected community. She understands the complexity of our city, and understands how big and small changes can impact our lives daily. She’ll work with us to make sure Melrose works for all of us.
The Sierra Club is America’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, with more than 3.5 million members and supporters.
