August 19, 2019 City Council Meeting: Plastic Straws, Lime Bikes, Public Art, Brazil Street

Much business was discussed at the August 19, 2019 City Council meeting. Summaries of all meetings are not included on this site, but this meeting included a wide range of topics and was also one of the last meetings before the Mayoral preliminary. Records of additional meetings are avaiable through the City of Melrose meeting portal as well as through MMTV.

  • Manisha opposes the establishment of an ordinance regulating shared mobility vehicles such as Lime Bikes, because the City’s agreement with Lime Bikes sufficiently addresses local regulations, and because she feels that innovative regional initiatives that provide carbon-free, active transportation options should not be stifled.
  • Manisha supports the proposed single use plastic straws and stirrers reduction ordinance. She feels it makes appropriate accommodations for people with disabilities. She is advocating for the addition of single use hot stoppers/splash sticks to the ordinance.
  • Manisha voted in favor of the newly adopted vacant storefront initiative because it will create opportunities for the City to more formally partner with the arts community.
  • Manisha suggested that the Mayor’s Office consider hiring a conflict resolution specialist to move beyond their impasse with the Ward 5 Councilor and residents and owners of the affected homes on Brazil Street.
